At 8 am today myself and 2 fellow paddlers, Kenny Eichler, and Adrian Tambor set out to the Nolichucky for what turned out to be a great day. We arrived at the take out around 9:30 and ran shuttle. We put in just after 10 and the level was just about perfect (~1700). After some great play down to Jaws and a run through the 1/4 mi we stopped for lunch and saw the only other boaters we would see the entire day. Following lunch we flew through the relativly easy rapids after the quarter mile. About 1/2 mi upstream of the campground we found possibly the best playhole on the river, almost identical to Hell Hole on the Ocoee minus the line plus a great recovory pool, we stayed here for nearly an hour until Kenny had a out of boat experience and we realized the time that had gone by. After finishing shuttle back we left close to 5 after a perfect day. I have posted quite a few trips on the calendar lately and there is really no response at all. Are there any Western Carolina Paddlers left? In the past there was almost always at least one response and the Nolichucky is by no definition a "hair run". Both my self and Kenny go paddling almost every weekend so if you looking to go just give us a call. (828-296-9856 -Nick , 828-628-9280 -Kenny)

Glad to hear you had such a good day on our favorite river. Yes there are still some paddlers in this area, in upper East TN. Our club is the "APES" (Appalachian Paddling Enthusiasts). You would love coming to our annual bash, "HeffFest", usually in May, held on the banks of the Noli at Big Rock. Shuttles, races, food prizes, camping, family activities (kids too!!), rodeo fun, etc., etc. We had big crowds of paddlers there, and lots of sponsors demo-ing new paddling stuff. We had a blast.
Contact us through apeswhitewater.org and go to the HeffFest site for an email address. Hope to see you there next year.

Site look funky?  Your browser is so old standards-based layouts and styling confuse it.  Consider updating.  Good options include:  Mozilla (Linux, Mac, Windows),  Mozilla Firefox (Linux, Mac, Windows),  Netscape v7 or higher (Linux, Mac, Windows),  Opera v7 or higher (Linux, Mac, Windows),  Galeon (Linux),  Konqueror (Linux),  Apple Safari (Mac),  Mozilla Camino (Mac),  Microsoft Internet Explorer v5 or higher (Mac),  Microsoft Internet Explorer v6 or higher (Windows).  All are free.  Because of security concerns I personally avoid Internet Explorer.  It may or may not be more buggy than its competitors, but its prominence and Microsoft's notoriety make it the most frequent target of malicious crackers.
