Yuck! Charlie Walbridge just posted an alert on BoaterTalk regarding an ailment I have never heard of, Leptospirosis. It is caused by exposure to animal urine in the soil or water. The symptoms can be mistaken for the flu, but if you contract it you need to get treated fast. Though rare in the general population, hikers and paddlers are at risk to contract it.
Read Charlie's entire post -- it is an eye opener!
