Caper's Island is a beautiful island off the coast near Charleston, South Carolina. WCP teamed up with NOC to provide this chance to kayak out to this great place and camp for the weekend. This island has no facilities, so everything had to be transported in and out by boat. Plenty of room in the sea kayaks NOC provided, although Mike also decided to bring along his play boat for some surfing.

Those that stayed behind enjoyed the expansive beach at low tide where shells, starfish and the like were in ample supply.

Most of the paddling to and from Caper's Island is along the intercoastal waterway. Making this trip in early spring or late fall is recommended, as there is less traffic from power boats along the route. (And fewer mosquitos on the island.) On this spring's trip the tide was against us both ways making for a good steady workout.

The Bell family joined us for camping, taking a power boat out to the far side of the island and hiking around to the beach side. They came prepared with a kite which everyone enjoyed.
