I will be conducting an American Canoe Association Whitewater Kayak Instructor Certification Workshop this year over two weekends in March and April on Lake Fonatana and the Nantahala River in Bryson City.

The first weekend is an Instructor Development Workshop that will begin Friday evening, March 27 and go through late Sunday afternoon, March 29. The second weekend is the Instructor Certification Examination and will be Friday evening, April 24 through Sunday, April 26.

If you have solid class III paddling skills, have good technical knowledge of paddlesports and are comfortable doing presentations, you should go ahead and register for both weekends. However, if you are tentative in any of these areas or are mainly interested in self-improvement, you can register for the IDW only. Currently certified instructors may satisfy the Methods Update Workshop requirement for recertification by doing either weekend.

The cost is $525 for both weekends and $275 for one weekend and includes lodging, some meals, and instructional materials. Details are available on the White Water Learning Center of Georgia website: http://www.whitewatergeorgia.com/instructor_certification.htm.

The American Canoe Association requires a minimum of five and a maximum of ten participants for a workshop to run and the confirmation deadline for lodging reservations is early March, so those interested should register as soon as possible. If the minimum registration requirement is not met by February 27, the workshop may be cancelled.

Site look funky?  Your browser is so old standards-based layouts and styling confuse it.  Consider updating.  Good options include:  Mozilla (Linux, Mac, Windows),  Mozilla Firefox (Linux, Mac, Windows),  Netscape v7 or higher (Linux, Mac, Windows),  Opera v7 or higher (Linux, Mac, Windows),  Galeon (Linux),  Konqueror (Linux),  Apple Safari (Mac),  Mozilla Camino (Mac),  Microsoft Internet Explorer v5 or higher (Mac),  Microsoft Internet Explorer v6 or higher (Windows).  All are free.  Because of security concerns I personally avoid Internet Explorer.  It may or may not be more buggy than its competitors, but its prominence and Microsoft's notoriety make it the most frequent target of malicious crackers.
