Beta:The release schedule is updated automatically each morning using the information Duke Energy provides on its Nantahala Generation Schedule page. Duke Energy provides the same information on a recorded message. To hear the message call 866-332-5253. The water is released just upstream of the Nantahala Gorge put-in and takes about 3 hours to reach the take-out. The current current weather and the weather forecast are updated automatically every twenty minutes using information retrieved from the National Weather Service's Bryson City, NC page, and the revised digital weather forecast (or RDF) from the NWS's Greenville Spartanburg RDF page. The Nantahala runs almost all the time except the month of November and/or December. Water is frequently, but not always, released most of the day. Longer releases likely when Nantahala Lake is over its guide elevation and/or rain is expected. Except during floods, the Nantahala is either "on" (water is being released at 3.5 feet / 586 cfs on the gauge just upstream of Ferebee Park) or "off." News:
